The owner Harold Roberts, also known as the "Silver Fox", was born in 1920, of Welsh and Seminole descent. Harold's great grandmother was a full blooded Seminole Princess, related to Chief Osceola from the Mississippi and Alabama areas. The story is handed down through the Roberts' family that Harold's great grandmother was in the forced march, (The Trail of Tears) from the Florida swamps to SE Alabama where she escaped from the soldiers. She later married Thomas Roberts in Iowa. Thomas came from Wales at the age of 19. Over the years Harold has learned to reproduce many parts for all kinds of antique furniture. Harold's specialty for years was rebuilding old fancy rockers from parts and pieces, reproducing many parts not available. Harold hand carved Overlay Carved Decorations that were often missing, to restore the original design. In the early 1980's Harold enrolled in a Silversmith class at the Jr. College in El Dorado Kansas. He continued this class under the same instructor Roger Matthews, until September 1998. Many of the unique designs made in the class were sold through the antique shop.

In September of 1998 Harold's wife Jane suffered a massive brain stem stroke, which made him stop attending classes. Harold and Jane operate Jane's Craft Shop (Prairie Crafts) which has many interesting items. Jane made Dream Catchers and Mandelas with Deer leather and native Turkey feathers from the Cassoday area. She has a lot of dream catcher earrings and pendants, also Sand Paintings from the Navajo Indians in Arizona. I keep about 150 Kachina dolls in my shop made by the Navajo's. |
